Several years back a friend of mine, Erin, invited me to play this dice game called Bunco. Prior to that time I had never heard of Bunco, but I thought it sounded like fun and would be a good excuse for spending a night out each month with the girls so I agreed to join the group she was putting together.
The members of that original group have gone separate ways, but I have continued to play Bunco in various different groups since that time. For the past two years I have been in two different Bunco groups.
One group I play in is a part of the Women's Ministry program at the church that Erin attends. I first got involved with this group when she asked me to be a sub for Bunco one night. Since that time I have signed up to play in one of the Women's Ministry Bunco groups as a full-time member. Each October starts a new year for the Women's Ministry Bunco and new members are able to sign up and old members are shifted into different groups in order to meet new women involved in the church.
Although I don't attend this church, I thoroughly enjoy playing Bunco with the ladies of their Women's Ministry group. I have been blessed to meet and build friendships with many wonderful women.
Tonight I went to my first Bunco get-together with the newly formed group this year. There are a couple of women in the group who I played with last year, and a few women that I have met on different occasions. All in all we seem to have a great group again this year. I can't wait to get to know each of these women when we get together for our Bunco game each month.
I'm also looking forward to seeing the women of my other Bunco group next week at that groups monthly get-together. I've been with this group of ladies for the past two years, and played with a couple of them for even longer than that. We always have a great time together.
I don't have a lot of IRL friends, and of those that I do have I see and visit with them only on rare occasions. Mostly that is my fault, and the fact that life gets busy and time gets away from me. I have the bad habits of disorganization and procrastination, so many times when I think about calling it is too late to do so and then time passes and I realize it has been such a long time since I've made a call or seen them that I feel embarrassed to give them a call. So tonight, I am thankful for Bunco and the opportunity it offers me to get out of the house each month to go and socialize with other women. It's pre-scheduled so unless I have prior plans made months in advance, there is no reason for me to miss Bunco. Socializing with my Bunco friends is something I look forward to each and every month!

Isn't it funny that God can use a game like Bunco, to bring friendship into our lives? How neat.
